Tim Abshire started his career at MTV in the On-Air Promos department. Empowered by the freedom to be a director, writer, producer and art director for all of the major shows on the channel, Tim won both the coveted Gold Cube and Gold Pencil awards for directing MTV Video Music Awards commercials featuring Ben Stiller, Dave Grohl, Marilyn Manson and the Wu Tang Clan. His wide range of work includes staging fights on set with Jerry Springer, playing hide and seek with Courtney Love, and teaching Chris Rock how to rap. Really.
After 6 years of creating content and commercials for MTV, Tim jumped headfirst into the world of commercial advertising, directing for high profile brands including Google, ESPN, Playstation, Kia, Chevy, Volkswagen, Coca Cola and Taco Bell, with agencies such as Grey Worldwide, Wieden & Kennedy, davidandgoliath, WONGDOODY, and Leo Burnett.
Some of his recent awards include three Gold Lions at the Cannes International Advertising Festival and a Gold Clio for his work with Google. Tim has also directed E*TRADE Superbowl commercials, where the financially savvy baby assists his adult pals on how to have financial security during those pricey life changing moments.
Abshire is well respected as an actor’s director, whether it be celebrity icon or background extra. He has worked with personalities as diverse as Howard Stern, Derek Jeter, Jeff Goldblum, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Alice Cooper, Triple H and Sheryl Crow, plus thousands of hopefuls whose faces you might one day see on TMZ.
